How to set up your new WiFi password
- Enter your network name exactly as it appears in your WiFi list, including capitals.
- Generate a password or type the one you already use. Look-alike characters are left out by default so it's easy to type on a TV.
- Update your router with the new password (WPA2 or WPA3), then reconnect your own devices.
- Print the card or download the QR code and put it where guests can find it.
Why your WiFi password matters
Anyone who joins your network can see the other devices on it and use your internet connection, which is tied to your address. WiFi passwords can also be attacked offline: someone nearby can capture the handshake your devices send when they connect and then try billions of passwords against it at home. A short or guessable WiFi password falls quickly; a random 16-character one does not.
- Change the default password printed on your router. Those are often generated with predictable patterns.
- Use WPA2 or WPA3, never WEP or an open network.
- Use a guest network for visitors and smart devices you don't fully trust.

How do guests use the QR code?
They open the camera on their phone and point it at the code. Both iPhone and Android recognise WiFi QR codes and offer to join the network with one tap. No app is needed.
How long should a WiFi password be?
WPA2 and WPA3 accept 8 to 63 characters. We recommend at least 16 random characters: long enough that the password can't be cracked from captured WiFi traffic, and with the QR code nobody has to type it anyway.
Why are look-alike characters left out?
So the password is easy to read and type on a TV, game console or printer, where you often pick letters with a remote. Characters like 0 and O or 1 and l are removed. A 16-character password without them is still very strong.
Is my WiFi password sent anywhere?
No. The password and the QR code are both created in your browser. Nothing you type on this page leaves your device.
Do I need to change my router settings?
Yes, the QR code only works once your router uses the same network name and password. Log in to your router (often at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, or with your provider's app), set the new password under WiFi or wireless settings, and choose WPA2 or WPA3.
Should I set up a separate guest network?
If your router supports it, yes. A guest network keeps visitors' devices away from your computers, cameras and smart home devices. Give it its own password and print the QR code for guests.
